Contemporary Drawing Artists

Artist: Marcia Kure

I find these works inspiring not only because of the inspiration behind them, but also because of how they challenge traditional ideas of drawing and how the artist uses a variety of mediums in her work. at their core these are pencil drawings, but she also uses gouache and watercolour, as well as pigments derived from kolanut and occasionally from coffee. I like how natural and earthy the tones of these drawings are, which I think grounds them in reality, despite the abstract forms represented.

Artist: Minjung Kim

I find these works particularly inspiring because of the many ways they can be interpreted. The pieces are titled M O U N T A I N, however they can also be interpreted as ocean or sound waves. I am also inspired by these pieces because of how the artist manipulates the medium they are using. most of the pieces are ink on mulberry Hanji paper, where the artist applies the ink when the paper is wet, causing it to bleed and create these interesting forms. This challenges my idea of what drawing is because its being experimental with the medium itself which i love.
